Pee Dee Electric is committed to providing reliable and affordable electricity to our members. However, like many of you, we have faced rising costs in recent years. Since 2020, the price of essential materials has increased significantly—aluminum wire by 114%, transformers by up to 84% and cross arms by 103%. While we have worked hard to absorb these costs, we have reached a point where a rate adjustment is necessary to maintain the financial health of your cooperative.
New Three-Part Residential Rate Effective April 1, 2025
Starting April 1, we will transition to a new three-part residential rate, also known as a time-of-use rate. This change better aligns with the true cost of electricity, as energy prices vary based on demand. By shifting usage away from peak times, members will have more control over their energy bills and can take advantage of lower rates during off-peak hours.
Peak Hours:
- Fall & Winter: 6 a.m.–8 a.m.
- Spring & Summer: 3 p.m.–6 p.m.
Adjusting your electricity use outside of these peak times can lower your monthly costs while helping Pee Dee Electric manage demand more efficiently.
Resources to Help You Prepare
To assist you in this transition, we have provided valuable resources on our website, including:
- Tips to reduce electricity use during peak hours
- A rate calculator to estimate your bill under the new structure Information on demand and how it affects pricing
- A guide to common household appliances and their energy consumption
- Additionally, we will continue to share updates through Carolina Country Magazine and other communications leading up to April 1.
As always, our team is here to help. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Pee Dee Electric’s office. We appreciate your membership and look forward to serving you.
