This summer, three local students received scholarships to train alongside athletes and coaches from top-ranked colleges at the Touchstone Energy Sports Camp.

Cora Faust and Milli Furr attended the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp from June 16–19, 2024. These young ladies trained with Wolfpack Women’s basketball Head Coach Wes Moore and current and former players.

Eli Goldman attended the Carolina Basketball School from June 22–26, 2024. He trained with Hubert Davis, head coach of the Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball camp, and current and former players.

“The camp was an amazing experience. Witnessing the skills of the college players was truly an inspiration that kept me motivated and constantly striving for improvement.”

During the camps, the students experienced living in a college dorm, built relationships with other campers and coaches, and received training from professional basketball coaches while learning fundamental skills that will help them excel on the court.

According to Eli, “The camp was an amazing experience. Not only did I learn valuable lessons about teamwork, but I also had the opportunity to connect with some great basketball players. Witnessing the skills of the college players was truly an inspiration that kept me motivated and constantly striving for improvement.”

Thanks to Union Power, Cora’s skills and love for the sport have grown significantly. She gained experience and learned how to defend correctly and the importance of footwork. Since attending the camp, her love for the sport has grown, making her an overall better basketball player.

As part of our commitment to supporting youth and education in our community, Union Power is proud to have awarded a scholarship to these three remarkable students who have excelled in their grades and extracurricular activities. The Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarship is offered to 26 North Carolina Cooperatives, collectively awarding over 50 sports camp scholarships annually.

The application process for the Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarship will reopen on Jan. 1, 2025. This is a valuable opportunity for rising sixth and seventh graders to apply and experience the same life-changing summer as Cora, Milli, and Eli.
