Scholarship Highway Spotlight - Carolina Country
January 2023

Emma Stone, a South Brunswick High School graduate, and Peyton Blosser, a South Columbus High School graduate, were the recipients of BEMC college scholarships last spring. They wrote to let us know how things were going.

From Emma:

"I love Chapel Hill, it is so much more than just a beautiful campus, and the opportunities here seem endless. Everyone is very welcoming, and the learning environment is wonderful. My classes are great! My schedule includes Exercise and Sports Science, Race and Ethnicity, Computer Science and Biological Research Skills — and they are challenging. Outside of the classroom, I’m serving as a recruiting events assistant with the UNC football team, which allows me to volunteer my time at every home football game. I am also involved in a few clubs: Active Minds, Undergraduate Pediatric Society, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Undergraduate Healthcare Club, Exercise is Medicine-On Campus, and Christian Medical and Dental Association Undergraduate. My career goals are still developing. For now, I’m going to study hard, enjoy being a student, and successfully obtain my undergraduate degree, which will prepare me for a future in medicine."

From Peyton:

"I am thoroughly enjoying NC State, there is so much to do all the time. While some courses are more challenging than I anticipated, with good time management I’m able to fit everything I want to do into my schedule.  I’m enjoying most of my classes, especially Chemistry and Environmental Ethics.  I’m currently involved in two organizations: TAPPI and Cru. TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry) is a professional organization I joined for my major. Cru is a Christian organization I got plugged into and have made many friends through. I am on schedule to graduate in four years with a dual major in Chemical Engineering and Paper Science and Engineering, and a music minor. I’m still considering career paths, but I have secured a summer internship at a paper mill to explore that side of my major."
