Jacob Gore joined BEMC as an Apprentice 2 Lineman in September 2020, and is now a 1st Class Lineman for the Whiteville District. Fun Fact: When he was 13, he was in a travel baseball team, the Columbus County Knights, the No. 1-ranked team in the nation. He pitched (left-handed) and played center field.

What do you enjoy doing after work?

Anything outdoors. My girlfriend, Anna Kay Nance, and I love to ride my boat down the Waccamaw River and just relax. We fish there too, and like to go to Lake Waccamaw and Lake Tabor to fish as well. I love to hunt deer and small game. Last year, I got a puppy, a Feist I named Bandit, that I’ve been training, and now that deer season is out, he’s really catching on, treeing squirrels. Anna was with me when I got him, and she enjoys hunting too. It's fun to cook what we get. Duck poppers are so good; take duck meat, cream cheese and jalapenos, wrapped in bacon, and cook on the grill until the bacon is done.

It’s great as an appetizer or can be a meal by itself. And I like to have people over and serve deer meat cooked slowly in the crock pot, with bell peppers, pepperoncini, and carrots. You could add potatoes, but I prefer to serve it over rice.

Have you had any time to travel?

Yes, I went duck hunting recently in Arkansas with my cousins. It was an amazing experience, there were so many different types of birds, and they flew all day long. Mallards, Pintails, Wigeons, Gadwalls. We stayed in a lodge with our guides and had a memorable three days of great hunting.

Anna and I have been skiing in Virginia and West Virginia, and we always go fishing at least twice a year in New Bern. We stay in the same place, which is right by the water and so beautiful and convenient. Dinner that night is whatever we’ve caught that day. She’s still in school, so we’ll go at spring break with some friends, and then another time in the summer. She’s graduating from NC State this year and will go on to pursue her masters.
