Brunswick Electric designated two local nonprofits as recipients of a matching grant opportunity through CoBank.

Based in Denver, Colorado, CoBank is a cooperative bank that serves rural infrastructure providers and in October offered matching funding to assist with Hurricane Florence relief.

BEMC presented checks totaling $100,000 to representatives from Columbus County Disaster Response, Inc., and Brunswick Family Assistance, each receiving $50,000 in funding for direct hurricane relief. Both organizations operate at a capacity to serve thousands of people affected by the recent storm and whose work includes mid- to long-term relief and emergency aid.

“Our members were hit hard. Communities continue to make repairs and start their lives over and that takes resources,” says Don Hughes, BEMC’s General Manager and CEO. “The opportunity to team up with CoBank and help on a greater scale was too valuable to pass up. The challenge was how to help the most people and maximize the impact of our doubled contributions.”

As a result of a matching grant through CoBank, BEMC presented two local non-profits with a check for $50,000 each to assist with hurricane relief efforts. From left, Doug Sasser and David Heller with Columbus County Disaster Response, Inc., and Don Hughes.
