Time-of-use rates offer you the potential to save money by using more electricity when demand is low, or during off-peak hours by paying less per kWh than our standard energy usage charge. Alternately, this rate plan encourages you to use less energy when demand for electricity is high, or on-peak hours, because the rate is significantly higher than our standard energy usage rate.
This billing option is not for everyone. It is ideal for those who can avoid using high wattage appliances during on-peak hours. This includes stoves, dishwashers and clothes dryers. Automating the water heater with a timer and the HVAC system with a programmable thermostat to limit how much these systems run during peak hours are also helpful if you choose this billing option.
An application process will be required to sign up for this billing option. Applications will be available in early January 2020 and this new time-of-use rate will go into effect April 1, 2020. You are not required to sign up for this program, it is simply a new billing option available to BEMC members.
