Lumbee River EMC is now accepting applications for this year’s Bright Idea Education Grants, offering funding for innovative, hands-on classroom projects that enhance student learning and engagement.
Bright Idea Grant Key Details and Requirements
Applicants must be K–12 teachers serving students within Lumbee River EMC’s service area, and all applications must be submitted online by Sept. 15, 2026. Projects are reviewed through a competitive evaluation process.
To be considered, proposed projects must be approved by the applicant’s principal or supervisor and directly involve students while providing ongoing classroom benefits. Projects should demonstrate clearly defined goals and learning objectives, incorporate innovative and creative teaching methods, and include measurable results that can be evaluated upon completion. Grant funds may not be used for salaries or professional development
Last year alone, Lumbee River EMC awarded more than $53,000 to 34 local teachers across Hoke, Robeson, Scotland, Cumberland and Moore counties. These projects gave students opportunities to explore, create and think critically in ways that extended beyond traditional instruction. From STEM-based activities to artistic expression and career exploration, Bright Idea Grants continue to spark curiosity and confidence in classrooms throughout our service area.
Bright Idea grants are part of a statewide program supported by all 26 electric cooperatives in North Carolina. Since its launch more than three decades ago, the program has invested nearly $17 million into North Carolina classrooms, funding thousands of creative projects and benefiting millions of students.
At Lumbee River EMC, supporting education is part of our mission to be the light that empowers our communities. By partnering with local educators, we are investing in the next generation of leaders, innovators and problem-solvers.
