In the spirit of community and shared responsibility, electric cooperatives across the nation are not only lighting up homes but also illuminating the path to education for countless students. One of the remarkable ways cooperatives contribute to the well-being of their communities is by supporting education through scholarships.

Halifax EMC’s board of directors believe that by supporting the education of our local youth, we in turn contribute to the growth and development of our community.

College Scholarships

One such way Halifax EMC supports education is through the Halifax EMC Retired Manager’s Scholarships. Current high school seniors whose parents/guardians are members of Halifax EMC are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Applicant must have been accepted for admittance as a full-time student in an accredited North Carolina university or college. Applications are available online at halifaxemc.com and are due April 1, 2024.

The cost of higher education can be a significant obstacle for many families. Halifax EMC recognizes this challenge and hopes that providing financial assistance through scholarships will alleviate some of the burden of educational expenses, allowing students to focus on their studies and pursue their academic goals without the weight of financial stress.

Halifax EMC understands the significance of education in fostering vibrant and sustainable communities. We are committed to empowering the dreams of the younger generation and building a brighter future for everyone.

Youth Tour

Another example of Halifax EMC’s educational scholarship opportunities is The Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. This annual trip includes the opportunity to explore the nation's capital, learn about the cooperative movement, and engage in discussions about the importance of civic participation.

The Youth Tour fosters leadership skills, encourages networking among peers, and instills a sense of responsibility for the future. As these young minds interact with policymakers, tour government institutions, and exchange ideas with fellow participants, they develop a deeper understanding of the democratic process and the significance of cooperative values. The Youth Tour serves as a catalyst for empowering the next generation of leaders who will contribute to the growth and sustainability of their local communities.

Interested in applying?

Current high school juniors who live in a household served by Halifax EMC are eligible to apply. The application process for 2024 has come to a close and recipients have been selected; however, the application for 2025 Youth Tour will be available at halifaxemc.com in December.
