Carolina Voices: Halloween

We Do Chicken Right

For the last 20 years I have dressed up my husband (he may not have enjoyed it as much as me) and myself for Halloween. Most of the outfits I make myself. I will get my ideas probably a year before the next Halloween and keep that in my mind and think of how to make the costume to go with my idea, always keeping it a secret until our party at Halloween.

This is the costume I made two years ago. We went to the Shelby Shag Club dance in Shelby (SUCH A FUN TIME).  As you can see, I’m a chicken and my husband is Colonel Sanders. I made my complete outfit using boas, a t-shirt, shorts, yellow leggings and gloves for the chicken feet. I also had my six baby chicks (we keep chickens). I think my husband made a good Colonel Sanders, with a bucket from KFC with a rubber chicken. So much fun. Thinking of this Halloween gets me excited.
