Join Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, the National Park Service, the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, and the US Coast Guard as we celebrate 150 years of service (A Legacy of Life Saving) in rescuing those in peril from the Sea. On Saturday we will be celebrating and demonstrating the way rescues had been performed in the early days of the service and on Sunday we will demonstrate the way it’s done today. In the 44 years of operation the Life-Saving Service responded to 28,121 vessels carrying 178,741 people in peril of drowning and rescued 177,286 of them.
