Employee Spotlight: Donald Holmes

Family of Donald Holmes

Donald, Danielle, Jackson, Demi and Nola Holmes

Donald Holmes started his career at BEMC just over three years ago as an Apprentice 2 Lineman and is now a First Class Lineman. He enjoys solving problems, helping members, and knowing every day is different. Fun Fact: He has an identical twin brother, and yes, they played pranks when they were young. Just leave it there, he says.

What is life like when you’re not working?

My wife, Danielle, and I have three children, Jackson, who is 10, and daughters Demi and Nola, who are 5 and 4. Danielle is an RN and works for a hospice company, so despite busy work schedules, we’re doing everything we can to show them what a good and healthy life should be. Jackson plays for the Southport Cougars, as a lineman. I was a defensive end for South Brunswick High and am nudging him in that direction so I can help him more.

Both girls are into dance and love their pink tutus; there are constant dance parties in the house. Growing up I had one female cousin, everyone else was male, so raising daughters has been a joyful culture shock. Danielle is from Georgia, and I have lots of family in Pennsylvania, and we’re tight knit on both sides, so we are up and down the coast a lot, making sure we spend time with them.

Sounds busy! What do you do to maintain balance?

I find that working out is the best stress release. My father boxed in the army and was in line to go to the Olympics before he had an eye injury. He was also a drill instructor and had a big influence on me and my brother, which served us well. I boxed from the time I was six through high school. I have a home gym, and love working out. Eventually I would like to compete in amateur body building, or working up to being in contention for a professional boxing card is another possible goal.

Danielle also helps me with balance, she convinced me to go on a cruise to the Bahamas, and now I’m addicted! I’m looking forward to the next time, and we’ll take the kids. I also try to keep a positive perspective. I went with other BEMC linemen to help in Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene, and we have so much to be grateful for.
