Each year, we allocate margins back to members based on how much electricity they used. These funds are used for a time to support system improvements and reduce the need for borrowing. When our financial condition allows, we return those credits—years later—to our members.
In December 2024, Four County EMC returned over $1.3 million in Capital Credits to members who received power from the co-op in 2002. Qualifying members saw the refund as a credit on their electric bill—just in time for the holidays.
But not all credits find their way home. Every year, some Capital Credits go unclaimed because we’ve lost contact with former members who have moved or changed their names.
Check the List – Claim Your Credit
We’re currently looking for current and former members who have unclaimed Capital Credits of $25 or more. If you received power from Four County EMC in the past, you could be owed a refund.
- Check the list in the August 2025 edition of the Four County newsletter or visit fourcty.org
- Call us at 1-888-368-7289 if you see your name or think you may qualify.
Important: If these unclaimed Capital Credits are not claimed by October 15, 2025, they will be turned over to the state of North Carolina, as required by law.
Capital Credits are one of the many benefits of being a member of Four County EMC. Whether you’re still receiving service or have moved away, the money you helped invest in your cooperative belongs to you—so don’t miss your chance to claim it!
