At Four County EMC, being a cooperative means more than keeping the lights on. It means looking out for our neighbors and lending a helping hand when it’s needed most. That’s the heart behind Operation Round Up, a program that turns a little spare change from our members into meaningful support for families and communities throughout southeastern North Carolina.
Through the generosity of participating members, Operation Round Up provides financial assistance to individuals facing hardships and supports nonprofit organizations working to make our communities a better place to call home.
How Does Operation Round Up Work?
It’s simple! Participating members voluntarily allow Four County EMC to round up their monthly electric bills to the next whole dollar. The difference, which averages about $6 a year per participating member, is contributed to the Four County Electric Care TRUST.
Those few cents might not seem like much on their own, but when neighbors come together, they add up to something special. Collectively, members contribute over $13,000 monthly, allowing the TRUST to provide assistance to those who need it most.
Helping Neighbors When It Matters Most
Since the program began in 1994, the Four County Electric Care TRUST has distributed more than $4 million to individuals and nonprofit organizations throughout the community.
The TRUST is guided by a board of community leaders representing the Four County service area. Meeting every other month, the board reviews applications and determines how funds can best serve members and our communities.
The TRUST supports nonprofit organizations providing essential services to Four County members. From purchasing items of necessity and making building improvements to supporting community projects, these grants help local organizations continue the important work they do every day.
A Cooperative Effort Operation Round Up is a wonderful example of what makes the cooperative model special. It’s neighbors helping neighbors, with members choosing to make a difference right here at home.
Every contribution, no matter how small, helps strengthen the communities we call home. And because participation is voluntary, members can choose to join whenever they’re ready.
Want to Get Involved?
Members can enroll by calling Four County EMC at 910-259-2014 and asking to participate in Operation Round Up. Contributions are tax-deductible, and participating members average just about $6 a year.
