Band of Oz may bill itself as a “Carolina Beach Music Mainstay since 1967,” but it’s much more. The seven-person popular band is always a hit at venues throughout the state and delivers the best of good-time vibes. The group started back in the mid-1960s in eastern North Carolina, playing mostly at sock hops at schools and private parties. They have evolved into a professional, full-time band that travels extensively throughout the Southeast and beyond doing more than 200 shows each year. While beach tunes like “Ocean Boulevard,” and “Shaggin” remain popular, the group has purposely added a diverse, youthful sound to its rotation, covering such artists as Bruno Mars and perennial favorites like The Temptations and Earth, Wind, and Fire. With their talent on vocals, drums, trumpets, saxophone, guitar and bass guitar, and keyboard, they deliver a rockin’ good time that always has the crowd dancing and singing along.
