Lee has been with BEMC for two and a half years. He serves as the Warehouse Supervisor for all three district offices. Fun Fact: “I’m a huge Elvis fan. Janelle and I went to Vegas on our honeymoon and saw two Elvis tribute shows. I’ve seen more than a dozen Elvis impersonators. My favorite is the ’68 Comeback Special, it’s the best.”
What are some of your hobbies?
I played four years of varsity baseball in high school, and coached travel ball for 20 years, even before my son, Justin, came along. It’s competitive – the players are talented and play at a high level. My kids knew that you had to earn your spot on the field with your attitude, the way you treated your teammates, and your work ethic.
I enjoyed working with kids, watching them grow and develop. The thing about baseball is that the harder you work at it, the better you get. By the end of the season, I wanted the parents to see growth, that their son had become a better ball player and person. It’s so good to get them out of the house and away from screens, interacting with other kids and learning self-discipline and patience.
Justin was a natural – a pitcher, first baseman and outfielder, and it was a treat to coach him in travel ball. When he went to high school, it was wonderful to sit on the other side of the fence and just cheer him on! Although I did pace the sidelines a lot and have to hold my tongue. Janelle would walk with me and say, “it’s OK, it’s OK”. He’s a lineman now, and a lot of the training he got playing ball translated well to line work and being on that team.
What else do you do for fun?
We have an Airbnb in Myrtle Beach, a half a block from the ocean and right near restaurant row, and we’re looking for another, it’s a very enjoyable business. We just bought a new house in North Myrtle, and love to ride the golf cart for miles down the coastline, enjoying the scenery and catching up with each other about the day.
We’re also big dog lovers, and both of us volunteer at shelters. We have a 90-pound female boxer named Presley (see Fun Fact), and she plays for five minutes then sleeps for six hours. She is lazy – and such a sweetheart!
