Spring is a season of renewal and a great time to refresh our energy habits. As temperatures warm and routines shift, a few small changes at home can lead to real savings on your electric bill. At Pee Dee Electric, we’re committed to helping you stay comfortable while using energy wisely all year long.
Simple Ways to Save This Spring
Schedule an HVAC Tune-Up. Spring is the perfect time to have your heating and cooling system professionally serviced. A well-maintained unit runs more efficiently, uses less energy, and is less likely to break down during the warmer temperatures.
Use Ceiling Fans Wisely. Set ceiling fan blades to rotate counterclockwise during warmer months. This creates a cooling breeze that allows you to raise your thermostat by two or three degrees without sacrificing comfort. Even a small adjustment can make a noticeable difference on your monthly bill.
Be Smart with Hot Water and Appliances. Shorter showers and running large appliances such as dishwashers and laundry machines during off-peak hours can also help reduce energy use and manage costs. Small daily habits add up over time.
Saving at home is one part of affordability. The other happens behind the scenes.
While we work to help you save at home, we’re also working on your behalf in Washington, D.C., to protect long-term reliability and affordability. Electricity demand continues to grow, and the always-available power sources are under pressure. Smart energy policy helps ensure we can continue delivering the dependable service our members expect.
As we look toward 2026, electric cooperatives are focused on several key priorities:
- Faster disaster recovery. We support the bipartisan FEMA Act of 2025 to improve response times and reduce costs for rural communities recovering from storms.
- Reducing approval delays. Streamlining permitting processes will help us upgrade power lines and substations faster to meet growing demand and strengthen reliability.
- Keeping reliable power plants online. We support practical energy regulations that ensure dependable power sources remain available until reliable replacements are ready.
- Protecting critical infrastructure. Hydropower and smarter land management policies play important roles in maintaining affordability and reducing wildfire risks.
- Sustaining grid investment. Federal loan and grant programs help cooperatives strengthen the grid, improve cybersecurity and prepare for extreme weather—without shifting unnecessary costs to members.
Electricity underpins nearly every aspect of modern life. Whether it’s helping you save energy at home this spring or advocating for sound policy at the federal level, everything we do comes back to one goal: ensuring safe, reliable and affordable power for our members now and in the future.
Thank you for your trust in Pee Dee Electric.
