Pee Dee Electric Awards Second Quarter 2026 Care to Share Grants

Derby Volunteer Fire Department

Pee Dee Electric is pleased to announce recipients of its Care to Share grants for the second quarter of 2026. Helping Hands of Hamlet, Inc. and the Derby Volunteer Fire Department, both serving Richmond County, were selected to receive funding through the cooperative’s member-supported program.

Helping Hands of Hamlet is dedicated to feeding hungry children and assisting families facing food insecurity. Grant funds will be used to purchase an electric pallet jack, enabling volunteers to safely and efficiently move and organize food supplies during weekly distributions and reduce the physical demands of the work.

The Derby Volunteer Fire Department serves a large rural area where reliable communication can be challenging during emergency responses. Its grant will help fund the purchase of a radio repeater system, improving communication capabilities and enhancing emergency response efforts throughout the community.

Funding for the Care to Share program comes from Pee Dee Electric members who round up their monthly electric bills to the next whole dollar. Since the program’s inception in 2005, members have contributed more than $1.92 million, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to strengthening the communities served by the cooperative.

“Through the power of giving, Pee Dee Electric’s Care to Share program continues to make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve,” said Taylor Demby, manager of Marketing and Communications. “We’re honored to provide grants that support local nonprofit organizations and emergency service agencies as they work to improve the lives of our members and neighbors.”
