Rainy Day Lilies

I love to grow flowers, so when we bought this house eventually the lawn surrounding the house became flower beds. We now have a corkscrew willow, lilacs, oaks, Japanese maple, several crape myrtles, rose bushes and day lilies in several varieties. My favorite is this little lily called a rain lily. As the name says, it blooms every time it rains. The bulbs came from a condo in St. Petersburg, Florida, then some got transplanted into real sandy soil in Titusville, Florida, where the whole neighborhood has them now. Our neighbors here in Hudson have also asked for them. So every time we go to Florida we bring some back for the neighborhood. They multiply heavily and don’t seem to mind the frost. Around march they will pop up and bloom on and off all summer. I have learned not to put them in pots. Last winter they froze unless you want to over-winter them in your basement. Luckily this lily never needs care and will bloom for anybody for years of enjoyment.
