Jordan K. Hildreth, CEO and Executive Vice President
During the summer months, electricity demand typically increases as cooling systems run more often. That is why we want to remind members of several programs, services, and practical tips to help manage energy during the hottest time of the year.
Pee Dee Electric offers Time-of-Use Billing to help members save money by shifting electricity use to times when overall demand is lower. From April 1 through October 31, the on-peak period is 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., when electricity demand is at its highest across the system. By limiting or spreading out the use of major appliances such as dishwashers, clothes dryers, and ovens during these hours, members can help reduce peak demand and lower overall system costs.
There are also simple ways to adjust your daily routine and improve efficiency at home. If you have a smart thermostat, consider pre-cooling your home before the peak period begins so your air conditioner runs less during the late afternoon. Raising your thermostat a few degrees during peak hours can also help your system cycle less frequently. Cooking outdoors on the grill is another great option, as it keeps extra heat out of the kitchen and reduces the need for additional cooling indoors.
Pee Dee Electric also offers rebates for energy-efficient upgrades, including heat pumps, water heaters, and electric vehicles. These incentives help offset upfront costs while supporting improvements that reduce energy use for years to come. Members can learn more about available rebates by visiting our website.
Sometimes, small actions can make a big difference. Ceiling fans can help you feel cooler, but they should be turned off when no one is in the room. Changing your air filter regularly can also help your cooling system operate more efficiently.
At Pee Dee Electric, we are committed to helping our members stay informed and make the most of their energy dollars. With a few simple changes and the right tools, you can enjoy the summer season with greater confidence.
Warm regards,
