The August “Where Is This” photo by Carolina Country’s Renee Gannon features Major General Nathanial Greene (the “fighting Quaker”), located at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park off New Garden Road in Greensboro. While Greene and his men did not win here in March 1781, the battle changed the Southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War. After the battle, British Lord General Charles Cornwallis stated: “I never saw such fighting since God made me. The Americans fought like demons.” The fight weakened the British forces, serving as the beginning of the end for Britain as Cornwallis would surrender at Yorktown later that year. General Greene is now surrounded by a city named in his honor.
