‘Funfetti’ Devilishly Delish Chocolate Cupcakes

With orange buttercream frosting

Servings: 2 dozen cupcakes

Rich fudgy chocolate and bright, lively orange flavors play nicely together. And the sprinkles add a festive crunch! Have fun making these fall cupcakes with your little chefs.

Ingredients

4 large eggs
1 cup water
⅔ cup melted, salted butter
¼ cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 box Devil’s Food Cake Mix (we used Duncan Hines)
1 small box instant chocolate fudge pudding mix

Orange Buttercream Frosting

3½ cups powdered sugar
1 cup salted butter, softened
Juice and zest of 1 orange
½ cup whipping cream
1 teaspoon orange extract
Orange food coloring (we used a yellow-red combo)
Fall-themed sprinkles

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and place cupcake liners into muffin pan.

  2. Combine all wet ingredients and blend for 30 seconds.

  3. Add mixes and continue blending on medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping down as needed.

  4. Fill liners ¾ full. Bake 18–21 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.

  5. For frosting, cream sugar and butter together. Add juice, zest, cream, extract and coloring. Whip until fluffy, scraping down sides as needed.

  6. Frost cooled cupcakes and top with sprinkles!
