More than a century ago, the Gillespies weren’t trying to start a big business; they were simply creating a solution for their dairy farm. Little did they know they were laying the groundwork for one of the Mid-Atlantic’s most respected precast concrete manufacturers.
Founded in 1922, Gillespie Precast traces its roots to a family farm where the Gillespies began casting their own concrete blocks for cattle operations. As neighboring farmers noticed the quality of their work, they started asking for the same products, laying the foundation for a business that has now spanned five generations.
Today, that family legacy remains at the heart of everything the company does.
“The Gillespie name goes on everything that we produce,” said Frank Sisk of Gillespie Precast. ”It’s their legacy. Five generations later, it still means as much to the family today as it did to their great-great-grandfather.”
The company manufactures precast concrete products used in both wet and dry utility infrastructure, including stormwater drainage systems, sanitary sewer structures, and underground utility vaults that support electric and communications networks.
As production ramps up in Asheboro, Gillespie Precast is doing more than manufacturing concrete products; it’s creating local jobs, investing in the community, and laying the foundation for its next century of success.
Last year, Gillespie expanded into Asheboro, bringing new jobs and new opportunities to Randolph County. The facility moved from property purchase to full production in less than a year, and company leaders already see room for future expansion.
“This is just the beginning,” Sisk said. “We see Asheboro as a growth project for years to come.”
The new plant primarily employs residents from our communities, many of whom were eager to find quality jobs closer to home.
Through conversations with nearby neighbors and word of mouth, Gillespie built a workforce made up largely of Randolph County residents.
While the company now ships products across the East Coast, Sisk says the focus has never changed.
“Quality means everything to us,” he said. “But the only thing better than the quality of our products is the service we provide. We want to be trusted partners from the beginning of every project until it’s finished.”
