As the temperatures rise over the next few months, we want to inform you about a range of energy-saving offerings designed specifically for you. By taking advantage of these programs, services, and tips, you can manage your summer energy consumption and reduce costs.
Time-of-Use Billing
Pee Dee Electric has recently introduced Time-of-Use Billing, which encourages members to shift the use of major appliances to off-peak hours. By lowering demand during peak times, members can help Pee Dee Electric avoid higher peak demand charges, and those savings are passed on to you.
From April 1 to Oct. 31, the on-peak period runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. During this time, try to avoid running major appliances or, at the very least, stagger their usage so they aren’t all running at once. If you have a smart thermostat, check the settings to see if there’s a time-of-use feature that can pre-cool your home before the on-peak period begins. This limits how much your air conditioner runs during peak hours. Another option is to increase the temperature during this window to help the air conditioner cycle less frequently.
Additionally, cooking on the grill during these peak hours is a great way to keep heat out of the kitchen. Consider waiting until after 6 p.m. to cook on the stove and try to avoid using hot water for showers between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to reduce the load on your water heater.
Home Energy Audit
Pee Dee Electric Energy Advisor Todd Moore can conduct a free energy audit of your home. This service helps identify areas where energy is being wasted and provides recommendations to improve efficiency and reduce monthly bills.
Rebate Program
When you make upgrades or purchases to reduce home energy use, those smart decisions should be rewarded. Pee Dee Electric offers rebates on heat pumps, water heaters, and electric vehicles. Visit pdemc.com to learn about our rebate program and how you can receive a bill credit for making energy-efficient choices.
You Have the Power
Small actions combined can have a significant impact on summer energy bills.
The best way to lower energy use during summer months is to raise the thermostat to the highest comfortable setting. The recommended setting for summer is 78 degrees. While ceiling fans can help you feel cooler, remember they don’t lower the temperature of the room itself. Be sure to turn them off when you leave the room to save energy. And don’t forget to change your air filters regularly, so your cooling system doesn’t have to work harder than necessary.
Don’t let high energy bills put a damper on your summer fun. Pee Dee Electric is here to help you manage your energy use, whether through our efficiency programs, services, or energy-saving advice from our local energy advisor.
We’re here to help you save—so you can enjoy your summer to the fullest.
Energy efficiency loans available
Pee Dee Electric offers Energy Efficiency Loans to qualified members who want to increase the efficiency of their homes but may lack the needed funds upfront to make the upgrades. Members can borrow funds from the cooperative and repay the loan through their monthly electric bill.
