A chill room provides students with a quiet, calming environment to de-stress, reset and develop self-regulation skills. Equipped with comfortable seating, soft lighting and mindfulness activities, the space serves as a retreat for students who need a moment to collect themselves before returning to their academic responsibilities.
“After spending time in The Chill Room, students return to class feeling more prepared to learn,” said Dr. Blount. “It’s been incredible to see how this space has positively impacted their well-being and overall school experience.”
Dr. Blount has plans to continue enhancing the space by adding more sensory tools, seating and activities. She also wants to establish additional spaces on campus to provide Positive Behavior Interventions (PBI) incentives, creating welcoming environments that encourage students to make positive choices and engage more effectively in their learning.
“It’s exciting to see Dr. Blount’s progress,” said David Spencer, Pee Dee Electric communications specialist. “Her dedication to enhancing the student experience through The Chill Room and other initiatives is making a real difference in the lives of her students.”
Since 1994, Pee Dee Electric has contributed more than $340,000 to fund over 200 projects, enhancing educational experiences for local students.
