Through Operation Round Up®, participating members voluntarily round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar. While the average annual donation is just $6 per member, together these small contributions add up—generating more than $13,000 in community support each month.
Funds from the program are distributed by a nine-member volunteer Board of Directors composed of community leaders from across the service area. The Board meets every other month to review applications and ensure that funds are directed to individuals facing hardships—such as illness, injury, job loss, or house fires—as well as to non-profit organizations providing vital local services.
During their March 20, 2025, meeting, the Board proudly announced the $4 million milestone, a testament to the generosity and compassion of Four County EMC members.
“We are all one unexpected crisis away from needing a helping hand. Although we hope that we never have a need for such assistance; it’s reassuring to know that the members of our communities care about one another enough to contribute to this program,” said Franklin Williams, Chairman of the Four County EMC Board.
This milestone demonstrates the lasting impact of Four County EMC’s commitment to the cooperative principle of Concern for Community—and reminds us that small change truly can change lives.
Member Support in Action: Welcome Home Angel
When you round up your bill through Operation Round Up®, you help bring joy, dignity, and much-needed relief to local families—just like those served by Welcome Home Angel.
This Wilmington-based nonprofit transforms homes for children with significant health or mobility challenges, creating safe, accessible, and comforting environments tailored to their unique needs. From therapy and sensory rooms to fully wheelchair-accessible bathrooms and bedrooms, each renovation is designed to improve quality of life and help families focus on what matters most: supporting and celebrating their child.
Founded in 2007, Welcome Home Angel has served over 75 families in southeastern North Carolina, including many right here in the Four County EMC service area. One recent project involved creating a custom bedroom for Carter, a 14-year-old with Down Syndrome who had never had a space to call his own. With the support of members like you, Welcome Home Angel gave Carter—and his family—something truly life-changing.
