Owned and operated by Faylene Whitaker and her family, Whitaker Farms is rooted in decades of hard work and dedication. The farm began in 1975 when Faylene and her late husband, Richard, started with just 10 acres of rented land and a dream of building something of their own. Over the years, that dream has grown into a large, diversified, family-run operation that now includes produce, greenhouses, agritourism and a popular destination for visitors across the region. Today, multiple generations of the Whitaker family help carry on that legacy.
Strawberry season represents the most rewarding time of the year for Whitaker Farms. It is when everything the family has built over nearly 50 years comes together, including agriculture, education, and community.
For Whitaker Farms, strawberries are more than just a crop. They are the heartbeat of the season. Rows of bright red berries draw crowds eager to pick their own, filling buckets and baskets while enjoying the fresh air and scenic views. Both children and adults search for the perfect ripe berry, creating memories that last long after the season ends.
Each season a steady stream of school tours visit the farm and students get a hands-on learning experience, seeing firsthand how strawberries grow and gaining a deeper appreciation for agriculture. These tours reflect the farm’s long-standing commitment to educating the public and connecting people to where their food comes from.
The farm store and on-site bakery store adds to the experience, offering local products, gifts, and seasonal favorites. Whether visitors are looking to take home fresh produce or a reminder of their visit, the shop provides a welcoming place to browse and explore.
While the days are long and the work is demanding, strawberry season represents the most rewarding time of the year for Whitaker Farms. It is when everything the family has built over nearly 50 years comes together, including agriculture, education, and community.
