Addy Kate’s Lunch with a Lineman

On Sept. 23, Tideland celebrated our Lineman Larry contest winner, Addy Kate, the daughter of Brent and Kimberly Smith of Belhaven. As the grand prize winner, Addy Kate was treated to Lunch with a Lineman and she decided to share the gift with her classmates at Pungo Christian Academy.

To kick off the event, Tideland Linemen Jonathan Lee and Trent Linton performed the high-voltage safety demonstration. Items including balloons, a ladder and even a gloved hot dog were placed in contact with an energized line to demonstrate the power of electricity and how important it is to avoid contact with utility structures. The students all asked amazing questions! And while the class both saw and smelled an exploding hot dog during the demonstration, we decided pizza would be more appropriate for lunch.

Thank you again to all the youngsters that participated in our summer contest. We look forward to introducing you to Kilowatt Katie next year.
