Adjusting Your Water Heater Settings to Save Energy

When it comes to electricity, we rarely think twice when we flip on a light switch, brew coffee in the morning, charge our phones, or adjust the thermostat. We simply expect the power to be there. And that’s how it should be because you are a member of Halifax EMC, and reliably powering your life is our mission.

As cooler weather arrives, your water heater may be working harder to keep up with longer, hotter showers. Check its temperature setting and consider lowering it to 120 degrees F, which the U.S. Department of Energy recommends for most households. Lowering the temperature can reduce energy use while also helping prevent scalding. Always check the owner’ manual before making adjustments.
