Tideland EMC

Anatomy of a planned transmission outage

The outage was taken to make room for our transmission provider, Dominion Energy, to do heavy construction work in the delivery point substation. This work to modernize the transmission delivery system will benefit Tideland members for decades to come.

Prior to September’s planned outage, weeks of work went into preparing the site for a temporary transmission feed. This included Tideland staging an EMC-owned mobile substation that is currently
carrying the member load until construction is complete.

At press time, the engineering and operations team advised us that a final transmission outage would be scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 18. During that outage, the mobile substation will be removed from use and Tideland will be connected to the new transmission delivery system. The planned outage window will be 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Members served by the two substations will be notified by text message, email and phone call prior to the outage event.
