Clogging traces its roots to Europe some 700 years ago, but today’s team clogging originated in western North Carolina. The dance style took jigs from the Irish and Scots, clogging from the English and buck dancing from Africans. Some steps include a stomp, thought to come from the native Cherokee. America’s Clogging Hall of Fame, dedicated to preserving old-time square dance and clogging, is in Maggie Valley, Haywood County.
