Employee Spotlight: Daquan Cox

Daquan Cox

What do you like to do after work to relax?

Cutting the grass and weed eating is a good way to unwind. I always like to be productive. I’m still young, and live with four of my cousins, so after work I like to catch up with them, see how their days were, and maybe help them with some of their projects. I was raised by my grandma, who had nine children, she was the matriarch and taught us how important family is, and also hard work. Before she died, we’d have Sunday dinners at her house and everyone was there. She had a big garden we all helped with, and chickens.

It sounds like you learned a lot growing up?

They all taught me to want to be the best person I can be. You only get one life, and you should make the most of it. I love to learn, and it’s important to know that there is always so much more to learn. I’ve been going to Zion Plain Missionary Baptist Church in Nakina for my whole life too, and that’s like another family; my Grandaddy was a Deacon there. Grandma taught us that family is important because you always have someone, and because we stick together and help each other out. I’d like to get married someday, buy a house and have two kids, and have them know that too.

Family and home are important, how about traveling?

Yes, sometimes both together! About twenty of us went on a cruise to Cozumel, Cayman and Jamaica. I loved Jamaica the best, the people were so down to earth and good. They didn’t have much but made the most of what they had. Next, I want to go to an all-inclusive resort that you fly into, maybe in Ocho Rios. Later, I want to travel as much as I can; Hawaii, Bahamas, Mexico, Africa, France and Italy. Especially in Mexico, but in the other places too, I want to see the non-touristy parts, what’s authentic, and see what everyday life is like in all of those places.
