Off Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 316.3–317 | 828-765-1045
Located off the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 316.4, the visitor center is a good starting point to learn about the trails and the various overlooks and to pick up maps. There are both moderate and strenuous hikes that lead to the three-tiered Linville Falls that are situated in a steep-walled gorge known as the “Grand Canyon of the Southern Appalachians.” Put on your hiking shoes, pack a picnic and camera, and visit what many tout as the most spectacular waterfall in North Carolina! If you’re into camping, the area also has campsites.
“This was the first waterfall I saw on my first trip to the mountains over 65 years ago.”
—Cliff Phillips, Mount Olive, a member of Tri-County EMC, and former Mt. Mitchell State Park superintendent
This year’s runners-up
Hickory Nut Falls, Chimney Rock
Looking Glass Falls, Brevard
