On Monday, April 13, Lumbee River EMC will join electric cooperatives across North Carolina in celebrating Lineworker Appreciation Day, a time set aside to recognize the men and women who power our lives.
Rain or shine. Calm days or storm-filled nights. Our lineworkers are there.
“These crews work year-round to build and maintain the power system that keeps the lights on for our members,” said CEO Jon T. Locklear. “This day is an opportunity for us to thank them for their hard work and dedication, ensuring that our communities stay powered and connected.
Our lineworkers serve communities across our entire service territory, connecting homes, schools, farms and businesses with reliable electricity. Their work is often done behind the scenes—high above the ground, in challenging weather and sometimes in the middle of the night—but its impact is felt in every flipped switch and powered home.
Linework is more than a job. It’s a commitment to community. It requires technical skill, constant training, and an unwavering focus on safety. It also takes heart—because restoring power means restoring comfort, security, and normalcy for the families we serve.
While we are grateful for our lineworkers every single day, the second Monday in April gives us a special opportunity to pause and say what matters most:
Thank you for keeping our communities connected. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for being the power behind the power.
