The key is being mindful during peak hours, when electricity demand is highest across our system. During the winter season (November 1 through March 31), electricity costs more from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. because demand is at its highest.
Your demand charge is based on the highest amount of electricity you use at one time during these peak hours—not how long you use it. Simple changes, such as delaying laundry, dishwashing, or other heavy appliance use until after 8:00 a.m., can help lower your peak demand and reduce your monthly bill.
By shifting energy use outside of peak hours, you’ll not only save money but also help maintain a more reliable electric system for all members.
