That’s where the Shine Bright Foundation steps in; offering encouragement, resources, and a network of support to help children and families thrive.

Founded just two years ago by Amanda and John Ward, Shine Bright was born out of their own experiences as parents and their desire to make a difference. What began as a simple vision to build community and awareness has quickly grown into a movement of hope and inclusion.

“Our goal is to raise awareness and advocate for those with Down syndrome or autism,” Amanda said. “And to provide financial assistance. When you have a child with Down syndrome, there’s a lot of financial hardship that can come along with that. So we help with funding for therapies and providing relief in that way.”

Earlier this year, Shine Bright received a Sharing Success Community Grant from Randolph EMC; funding that helps them continue creating opportunities for families in our region.

We caught up with Amanda and John during Shine Bright’s now annual Rock the Block 5K and Street Festival held in September. What started as a small community event has grown into a joyful celebration filled with neighbors, local vendors, and laughter echoing through the streets.

For Amanda, connection is at the heart of it all.“The purpose of this event is to bring the comunity together and raise awareness,” she said.

Today, Shine Bright serves families primarily in Randolph County, but Amanda says, “We’re very much God-lead” and they’re open to expanding wherever God leads. With every event, every family served, and every smile shared, Shine Bright continues to live up to its name; illuminating the path of hope, one family at a time. Watch the full story below.
