Strawberries: Three Facts

  1. In medieval times, people served strawberries on important occasions, to bring about prosperity and peace.
  2. Strawberries are the only fruit to wear their seeds on the outside. BTW: They aren’t technically berries, because berries have their seeds inside. In fact, biologists consider each seed on a strawberry to be its own separate fruit. (So meta!)
  3. American Indians mixed strawberries with cornmeal to make strawberry bread, which is believed to be a precursor to strawberry shortcake.
