Building strong communities doesn’t happen accidentally. It takes strong connections and shared investment for them to truly grow. As your local electric cooperative, we see firsthand how important it is to support not just infrastructure, but the people who power and sustain our communities. That’s why we are committed to preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s workforce by connecting them to real opportunities, hands-on experiences, and the possibilities that exist right here at home.
Thanks to our partnership with the Union County Chamber’s Workforce Development Task Force, we have the opportunity to engage local students in discussions about careers in the energy industry, skilled trades, and manufacturing.
Recently, we visited two local schools, Cuthbertson Middle School and Parkwood High School, to connect with students and spark their interest in the energy industry. Students explored a wide range of Union Power career paths, from maintenance to accounting to engineering and linework. We also shared what makes a cooperative unique and how that mission drives us to give back to the people we serve every day. To make it even more impactful, students rolled up their sleeves and took part in hands-on activities that introduced them to the basics of linework skills.
As a cooperative, our mission extends beyond providing reliable energy; we are dedicated to investing in the people and the communities we serve. Programs like the Workforce Development Task Force highlight the importance of early engagement and strong partnerships. By introducing students to promising local career paths, we empower them to picture and pursue their future possibilities
