During the month of May, our safety department hosted the annual Pole Top Rescue event, a hands-on training that prepares our linemen for real-life emergencies. This important exercise gives our crews the opportunity to sharpen their skills and stay ready to respond when it matters most.
During the event, linemen simulated rescuing an injured coworker from the top of a utility pole. The scenario required strength, focus and precision as each participant worked against the clock to safely bring their teammate to the ground. While we hope these situations never happen, our crews train for them so they can act quickly and confidently if they do.
Each lineman was required to complete the rescue in under five minutes or repeat the event. The time requirement reflects the seriousness of these situations. As one lineman shared, every second counts in an emergency. If a victim is not brought down and given CPR within that critical window, the risk of severe injury or worse increases significantly.
The Pole Top Rescue event is a powerful reminder of the skill and dedication it takes to do this job safely. It also reflects the strong commitment our team has to protecting one another and serving our members with excellence.
We are proud of our linemen and our safety department for the work they do every day to keep our communities powered and safe.
