When I wasn’t ruining his birthday fun by sitting on his toy car, we got along very well and made up our own games, such as playing spies in the back seat of the family Oldsmobile and pretending the seatbelt buckles were walkie talkies. We also loved creating our own space capsules from discarded refrigerator boxes given to us by our grandfather, who was a builder.
But our favorite game was me sitting on his shoulders with a blanket wrapped around us. He would walk my much taller self around the house, and I would introduce us to everyone as “Big Person.”
