Kenneth Paul Block Exhibit
An exhibition of original fashion illustrations by Kenneth Paul Block (1925 – 2009), arguably the most important fashion illustrator of the second half of the 20th century. For nearly 40 years Block was the house artist for Women’s Wear Daily and W magazine. In addition to that position, he held long-term commissions as an illustrator for Bonwit Teller, Bergdorf Goodman and Lord and Taylor. At fashion shows, collection previews and the Paris couture, Mr. Block sketched the works of designers like Geoffrey Beene, Bill Blass, Oscar de le Renta, Perry Ellis, Pierre Cardin, Givenchy and Coco Chanel. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston owns 1,844 pieces of Block work. Exhibition is on loan from the Kenneth Paul Block Foundation. Selections from the Block Foundation collection will be exhibited in 2017 in London, New York City and the Balenciaga Museum in Spain. Alamance Arts is the only North Carolina venue to exhibit the Kenneth Paul Block collection.
