Where in Carolina Country is This?

The June “Where Is This” photo by South River EMC member Dale Jarvis features historic Yates Mill on Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh, probably one of the most-photographed spots in southwestern Wake County. The restored 1756 gristmill still grinds wheat and corn, and the county park location has an easy trail to explore around the mill lake. Visitors can learn more about the mill and its restoration at the visitor’s center and museum located inside the building, as well as at various interpretative exhibits within the 174-acre park. Reader Ann McConnell noted that her great uncle John Lea served as the last miller to operate the mill. The winning entry chosen at random from all correct submissions came from Dora Mason of Linden, a South River EMC member.
