Nannie’s Cake With chocolate frosting
Ingredients
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 stick butter
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups self-rising flour (I use White Lily)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 stick butter
- ⅓ cup Hershey’s Cocoa
- 1 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions
Beat sugar and butter until creamy, then add eggs one at a time. Add the flour and milk alternately, beating well. Add the vanilla and mix well.
Divide the batter into 10 8-inch pans, using approximately 2 large spoonfuls in each. Bake at 400 degrees about 7 minutes or until cake is tested done. Turn cake layers out on a clean cloth to cool. Number of cake layers will depend on amount of batter in each cake pan.
Mix the frosting ingredients together, except the vanilla, and cook on medium heat for 10 minutes (don’t boil), then turn to low and cook for 45–50 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Frost each layer as you stack the cake using all the frosting. The frosting will thicken as it cools.
