September 2023
Allison Honeycutt

Anson County Early College student, Allison Honeycutt, was chosen as this year’s Electric Cooperative Youth Tour delegate after completing the application process and making an impression during the interview.

Alongside approximately 1,800 high school students, Allison Honeycutt of Anson County Early College participated in the weeklong tour of the nation’s capital from June 18–23, 2023, sponsored by Pee Dee Electric.

During the tour, she and her fellow delegates learned about the Cooperative Business Model and United States history, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and various Smithsonian museums. They also paid their respects at Arlington National Cemetery, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and the Korean War Veterans Memorial. Delegates also met with members of North Carolina’s congressional delegation during a meeting on Capitol Hill, where they had the opportunity to ask policy questions and receive valuable advice.

“This trip was amazing. A few of my personal favorite opportunities during this trip were visiting the Arlington Memorial, the changing of the guard, and meeting all of the students from other states who joined us, including Hawaii!” stated Youth Tour delegate Allison Honeycutt. “I recommend this trip to all rising juniors and seniors.”

As part of Pee Dee Electric’s commitment to community and powering a brighter future one member at a time, the cooperative sponsors up to two students each year to represent Pee Dee Electric on the Rural Electric Youth Tour. Rising high school juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity beginning in November each year.
