As a member-owned electric cooperative, BEMC operates without a profit motive. After covering expenses and planning and building for the future, we periodically return revenue to the membership in the form of capital credits.

These checks are mailed out generally every two years, and the formula for distribution is based on prior years of operation and member consumption. If a member who is owed capital credits has moved, and we don’t have an accurate address, their check is returned to us.

You can go to bemc.org to see if we are holding a check for you. Additionally, by law, we are required to periodically turn over, or escheat, unclaimed capital credits to the State of North Carolina. If your name appears in the database, please complete a claim form and return it to: BEMC, Capital Credits, PO Box 826, Shallotte, NC  28459

Please allow up to 60 days for your claim to be researched and processed.
