The nature of the cooperative business model ensures that member value is the focal point of all our decision making. Guided by your input, we work to provide you with an industry-leading system that delivers highly reliable electric service at the lowest possible cost, and programs and customer service that make your life better. Your participation in the democratic process is central to making the cooperative business model work. By understanding local priorities and concerns, and maximizing available resources, we can deliver results that are meaningful to you.

At this year’s annual meeting, we had five times as many members register than in any previous year. The format change included a business meeting that incorporated conversations between members and co-op leadership, which were extremely valuable to us. Our emphasis on reliability and cost reflects the sentiment of the membership, and we need this type of participation and feedback to make sure we continue to meet your needs. This was our third year without a rate increase, and we have no plans for one in 2024 – this is no small accomplishment.

We heard you when you voiced your concern about capacity, area growth and EV penetration. Please rest assured – we have sufficient resources for a host of scenarios, and continually forecast and plan for growth on all fronts. For example, although we’re not seeing the rapid growth in EVs that some other parts of the country are, we’re studying where charging is happening and how; and will make additional investments at the right time. Cost allocation and rates that are fair to all remain a priority; the additional kWh used by EVs will ultimately pay for additional infrastructure.

This was our third year without a rate increase, and we have no plans for one in 2024.”

To further amplify your voice, we established a Member Advisory Committee (MAC) this year. It meets quarterly and consists of volunteers that are a representative sample of members from across our service territory. MAC members act as sounding boards for changes in service processes and the development of new programs. They learn about our operations and provide valuable input from, and information to, the community. This year’s MAC discussions included the state of the electric utility industry, our storm preparation and response activities, and our new Energy Solutions team.

We undertake these efforts to make sure that everyone is heard and represented because, in an increasingly changing energy landscape, member participation is more important than ever. The co-op model is perfectly positioned to make the most of opportunities and face any challenges, because of you. You are our cornerstone, you drive our actions, and you deserve the best we have to offer. And that will never change.
