1Running your dishwasher uses more energy than hand-washing dishes
Most dishwashers today have energy efficient settings and use less water than they used to. Handwashing dishes requires lots of hot water, and therefore lots of energy.

2Keeping a ceiling fan on will cool a room
Fans are designed to move air around, not cool a room. Having a fan on helps people in a room feel cooler, but doesn’t actually make the room cooler, so it’s best to turn a fan off when no one is in the room.

3Closing vents in unused rooms saves energy
Although you would think it would work, closing vents just redirects the air flow to other rooms in the house. Often, this increases the overall pressure in the system, making it work even harder.
